A word on hoaxes, scams and protecting yourself

Spamming your friends and family will not help a sick child. There is no such thing as e-mail tracking.  No worthwhile company expects you to spend your own money as a secret shopper ("we'll pay you back later--promise").   Those “free” give-aways, chain letters and panicky “tell everyone you know!” messages are usually hoaxes that can cost you a lot.

Some are harmless and mildly entertaining BUT most of them are scams designed to steal your personal identity and your money as well as compromise your computer security.
